Seaside A Cappella is thrilled to share some exciting news, making history at the International Association of Barbershop Singers (IABS) Convention and Contest in Killarney, Ireland, on October 11, bringing home the International Gold Medal!
As the first Harmony, Inc. chorus to compete at this international event, our participation inspired the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers to make an historic change to its eligibility rules. Previously, everyone on stage for international contests, including Musical Directors, had to be members in good standing of The Barbershop Harmony Society (BJS), Sweet Adelines, or in a BHS Alliance organisation that has an affiliation with BHS. When Seaside A Cappella expressed interest in the convention, hoping simply to sing and share our music on the international stage, the IABS made the groundbreaking decision to amend its rules to include Harmony, Inc. members.
With 53 Seaside A Cappella members on stage, and quartet Four Shore, we proudly represented Harmony, Inc. and our Area 1 community. Our chorus performance was a true celebration of harmony across generations from age 93 to age 8 making history as the youngest singer ever to win gold at the event.
This achievement marks a shining moment in Seaside A Cappella’s journey. We are deeply grateful for the support of our coaches Joe Cerutti, Cindy Hansen Ellis and to Cay Outerbridge for his arrangement of On Top of the World.
